Sent out a $1.50 favourite in the Rayngold P/L Pace (1,730 metres), the Amanda Turnbull-trained Our Millwood Maizie led from start to finish in her fourth career win.
Next closest to the overwhelming favourite at the finish line was Afamilyaffair ($12.30) 11.1m off the pace.
Driver Nathan Jack had a tricky start on the Turnbull three-year-old filly, going out from gate seven, but once she came across to find the lead there was no looking back.
The winning mile rate was 1:58.1, a career-best for the Bettors Delight x Millwood Minisota filly.
Jack said he didn’t fell any great threats emerging from the field once he got his way to the lead.
“You never like to underestimate any opposition though. It’s a race and everyone’s out there to do their best,” he said.
“It’s probably a big drop in grade for her, coming back from Menangle to here.
“She’s been reasonably consistent of late. She seems to run her best races whenever she’s in front or not caught behind any horses.
“We’ll try and progress her through the grades now and see how she goes.”
Jack said with three wins from eight Australian starts since coming over from New Zealand, Our Millwood Maizie has shown promise but not quite lived up to her potential.
“I think she’s been a bit disappointing. The connections in New Zealand thought she was a really nice filly when she came over but she’s probably let them down a little bit,” he said.
“She’s doing her job at the moment but probably not the job that we were expecting her to do.”
Think It Through got out strongly on Jack’s inside but once Our Millwood Maizie found her stride she crossed over to the lead before the turn.
Frying Pan took the sit behind the leader while Think It Through continued her strong start to get across to the death seat.
Our Bella Chimes ($4.90) made the first major move of the race as she ran up from the rear of the field to race in front of Think It Through.
With 200m left to race Our Millwood Maizie and Our Bella Chimes got a small break on the field.
John O’Shea tried his hardest to stay in touch with the leader as they straightened for home but it was no use as Turnbull’s runner increased her margin in the run for home.
Afamilyaffair produced a strong run down the home straight to pinch the runner-up spot from Our Bella Chimes by 3.9m, with It Takes Courage finding fourth.
