During an opening 20 minutes where they could find only a single completion and produced six errors, Panthers were on the ropes.

In that period Oberon picked up two tries but eventually Panthers steadied the ship and gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about.

Panthers clawed their way back to take a 18-12 lead at half-time and produced an improved second half of football to extend the margin at the full-time whistle.

It’s the second straight week, following last round’s derby against St Pat’s, where Panthers have picked up wins in all four grades of football.

“It was an ordinary start. We didn’t complete a set in our first four. They had a couple of early tries but what I think kept us in it was that they weren’t completing much better than us either,” Panthers manager Danny Dwyer said.

“To go into half-time in front 18-12 considering the amount of possession we had set us up for the second half to go on and win the game.”

It took just five minutes for the Tigers to find their first try when a well-placed Matt Rose kick to the left corner picked out Zac Maher.

Tyler Hughes took the Tigers out to an 8-0 lead when he crossed on the right wing 19 minutes into the match, as dropped ball continued to cripple the hosts.

The gap was cut down to two when the Panthers scored their first try of the day through Jeremy Gordon and when Jake Betts muscled through several defenders to score, Panthers found themselves with a 12-8 lead eight minutes before the break.

Blake Lawson finished off a Panthers overlap on the right edge for a 10-point advantage over the visitors.

Oberon didn’t let Panthers get away from them as Hughes produced a great leaping effort on the end of a bomb to find his second try of the day in the final minute of the half.

Scores were briefly levelled in the second half when Hughes completed his hat trick.

Mitch Davis came close to getting Panthers back in front when he was held up on his back just shy of the Tigers’ in goal, unable to reach over the line to plant the ball down.

Davis was able to get an offload away, which was scooped up by Trent Hotham for a try and a 24-18 lead.

Both sides were reduced to 12 men when the Panthers’ Kyle Byrnes and Tigers’ Maher were sent off for their role in an on-field brawl with 15 minutes still to play.

Leigh Monaghan wrestled his way over the Tigers line for a try eight minutes from full-time and Gordon hit a late penalty goal to secure the Panthers’ seventh straight premier league win.
