From award-winning creative duo Michael Gow and Robert Kemp, this show boasts stunning period costumes and a charming chamber orchestra along with some of Opera Australia’s finest singers.
But this never-before-seen conception of Mozart’s comical masterpiece has a heart-warming twist … the youth of each town on the tour will have the opportunity to become part of the show.
Opera Australia is training hundreds of children to perform alongside a professional production team through the Regional Children’s Chorus program.
The program has had over 750 children involved from 37 different locations across Australia over the last two years.
Opera Australia works with local choir leaders to train groups of children in advance of the performance.
As part of the preparation the children also take part in a full rehearsal with the Opera Australia team and cast, giving them invaluable industry experience.
The Mitchell Young Voices Choir will join the company in Bathurst.
“The experience of performing on stage with Opera Australia cast members is something these children will never forget, it is a very rare opportunity,” BMEC manager Stephen Champion said.
Closing curtains doesn’t mean the end of the road for these kids. Opera Australia is vested in the development of these young performers, as seen when two young boys who had participated in the Regional Children’s Chorus Program in 2014 then went on to be cast in Opera Australia’s main stage production of Tosca, performed at the Sydney Opera House and The Arts Centre Melbourne in 2015.
If you’ve never before witnessed an opera, take Michael Gow’s advice when he says don’t be scared!
