We all know that it is a team effort, but Tree was inspirational in his sides remarkable victory winning all of his four sets in fine style 6-4, 6-4, 6-1, 6-0. Jupiter team captain Roger Giles believed it was a truly remarkable form reversal from an individual player he had ever seen.
Team Jupiter carved up team Saturn, 7 sets to 3. A looming threat in the coming matches. Jupiters number one player Rocket Rod Schumacher was in hot form winning all of his four sets 6-3, 6-0, 6-2, 7-6. The rocket had his opponents in panic mode with his wide range of crafty shots.
Jacqui Bicanic and Jim Geyer were also in good touch playing good constructive tennis. Winning captain of team Jupiter Roger Giles was very pleased how well his side committed themselves.
Losing captain of team Saturn Garth Hindmarch was guttered after his team's trouncing. The second match was a thriller with Team Mars of Dave Fuller, Guy Fletcher, Sarah Tree, Chris Dorman and Andrew Howarth winning over team Venus of Brook Lynch, Les Moulds, Graeme Stapleton, Stacey Markwick and Gideon Roos, 5 sets all, 50 games to 44.
Mars number one player, hard-hitting Dave fuller was a force to be reconded with as he blasted his opponents off the court with his bullet-like forehand and cagey net skills. Team Mars Guy Fletcher is on the improve and is not to be taken lightly. Guy is a good player under pressure. Tree, Dorman and Howarth all held their own and played with plenty of purpose in team Mars win. Winning captain of team Mars Sarah Tree was happy to take the two points.
The third match nearly turned into a boil over, as the underdog side of Team Uranus went down in a hard fought match against hot favourites team Mercury 5 sets all, 50 games to 48. Captain of team Uranus John Bullock and his troops were down 5 sets to 0, and in all sorts of trouble. Bullock instructed his players not to panic as he was about to play his trump card. His team members believed it was too late, but Bullock insisted they listen or else.
They clawed their way back to 5 sets all. However, they just fell short. Winning captain of Team Mercury Bryan Reiri was a very relieved captain. Losing captain of team Uranus John Bullock was pleased how well his side fought back. From 5 sets to 0, and to fight back to 5 sets all was an absolutely awesome effort.'' Bullock said.
Good hitting.
