Bathurst trainer-driver O’Shea revealed he had battled to get the Always A Virgin x Justa Dreamaway mare fit moments after she showed what she was capable of when right.
She crossed from barrier seven and from there posted an all the way win in the NSW State Bred Breeders Challenge Pace (1,730 metres).
Vergels Girl ($2.10 favourite) rated a handy 1:57.3 for the victory, getting home in 57.6 seconds. She finished 9½m clear of Percynjack ($14.90).
“She always had a lot of gate speed as a young horse … but she’s had a lot of injuries and I’ve struggled to get her right,” O’Shea said.
“She’s always been a half nice horse and if she keeps going I think she will do a decent job.”
