Now, nine years later, O’Malley will be looking for the same kind of Carnoustie magic.
This Friday (AEST), O’Malley will tee off in the opening round of the 2016 The Senior Open Championships at Carnoustie.
One of five Majors on the over 50's circuit, the Senior Open is the only one played outside the US.
The course is one that pga.org.au believes will suit O’Malley, saying “his his arrow straight driving and laser like iron play will be a big advantage on a course where the rough is punishing.”
Certainly that proved the case in 2007 in round two of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
O’Malley carded a then course-record equalling 11-under 64, which included nine birdies and only one dropped shot.
