AN EAGLE on the par-five 12th was the highlight for Bathurst golfer Peter O’Malley on day one of The Senior Open Championships at Carnoustie in Scotland.

Contesting the event for the second time, O’Malley made a steady start to the tournament as he fired an even-par 72 on Thursday.
It had him in a share of 24th with 16 other golfers, including renowned American John Daly.
Through the front nine O’Malley played consistent golf as he dropped just one shot on the par-three eighth. He parred the rest of the holes.
O’Malley slipped to two-over with another bogey on the 10th, but he climbed the leaderboard with his efforts on the 12th.
He took three shots on the 459-metre hole to register an eagle.
O’Malley’s run back to the clubhouse included a birdie on the 14th and bogey on the 18th.
