Saturday marked the resumption of the Bathurst Netball Association A grade competition following the school holidays, making the day’s action a test of who kept their fitness up the most over the one-month break.
Both sides went goal for goal throughout but Colts did just enough to secure their third win of the season.
Colts’ Alli Hundy said her side were a little rusty in their first game back.
“It was a bit of a scrappy game and the weather didn’t really help. We’ve had the three weeks off for holidays as well,” she said.
“It was really good for us though to have Teagan Burke back. She was shooting really well and she also played some good defence.
“There was one centre which went on for ages because both teams kept losing the ball. The weather just made things so difficult.”
After having the time off netball for holidays, Hundy said Colts know what they have to work on over the coming weeks if they’re to get the cobwebs out.
“We want to try and get Teagan into our combinations,” she said.
“Our biggest problem this whole season has been trying to bring the ball down the court. That’s what we’ve got to focus on most.
“It’s been an up and down season for us. We’ve had so many breaks and there’s been changes to the draw. It just hasn’t really felt like a netball season.
Hundy only managed to play five minutes in Saturday’s match against the Heat after clashing heads with an opponent.
Both teams struggled to build momentum in the cold and gusty conditions in a low-scoring affair.
At half-time Colts held a slim one-point lead.
Little could separate the two teams in a tight tussle but Colts kept their lead to pick up a valuable victory.
In the weekend’s other games Panthers Duncans were too strong for the Bathurst under 15s representatives in a big 63-25 win while Bulldogs Verdelho defeated Nova Pursuit 39-26.
Bulldogs take their winning streak to six games with the result, while beating Nova for the second time this season.
The weekend’s result have seen the competition table go through a shuffle.
Bulldogs continue to lead the way on 18 points while the Heat, on 13 points, have slipped from second to fourth.
Panthers are now in second place and a point clear of the Heat.
Colts have jumped from fifth into third - level with Heat on points - but get the edge on for and against.
