The man who fired a course record 11-under 64 round at Carnoustie in 2007 while playing on the European Tour went into The Senior Open Championships in reasonable touch.
He had picked up a tied 15th finish in June in the Jersey Open, while earlier this month he shared 12th place at Swiss Seniors Open.
O’Malley fired an opening round 72 to be even with the card, but on day two the former Scottish Open winner was unable to climb the leaderboard.
He slipped from tied 24th to miss the cut as he finished at seven-over in tied 91st.
O’Malley began his day with a par, but he struggled through the rest of the front nine with bogeys on the second, third, sixth, seventh and ninth holes.
He then carded two more bogeys on the 11th and 12th as he found just six greens in regulation for the day.
