Dorothy ‘Dot’ Simmons was walking her neighbour’s dog Daisy, a five-year-old cavoodle, in Machattie Park when the attacked occurred at 8.30am.
She was walking in the park, near the George and Keppel street corner, when a great dane and Staffordshire bull terrier ran at her.
Stacey Whittaker spoke to the Western Advocate on behalf of her mother Sue Parkes, who owns Daisy the dog.
“She [Mrs Simmons] was walking Daisy this morning, like she does every morning. She was walking through Machattie Park like she does every morning,” Mrs Whittaker said.
“She was across from the George Hotel when the dogs set upon Daisy and Dot.”
Mrs Whittaker said luckily for Mrs Simmons people witnessed the attack and came to her aid.
“Luckily passers by intervened and called an ambulance,” she said.
“Dot has a puncture mark on her arm and has concussion because she had a fall [during the attack]. She’s in her 80s. Dot is quite confused and she can’t remember what happened.”

Meanwhile, Daisy the dog received extensive wounds in the attack and remains in a local veterinary surgery.
“She has injuries to her body and neck and there was quite a bit of blood loss,” Mrs Whittaker said.
“She had surgery this afternoon [Tuesday] and the wound is quite large.
“She’s stable and they seem to think she’ll be ok.”
Mrs Whittaker said she has since been advised the dogs were spotted at All Saints’ College later on Tuesday, and the Staffordshire bull terrier was captured.
However, the great dane escaped and was seen heading towards Eglinton.
A Bathurst Regional Council spokesperson said the dog attack had been reported.
“Council has confirmed an incident occurred near Machattie Park this morning,” the spokesperson said. “The matter is currently under investigation by council.”
