Don Watson is now best known as an author, but has long been associated with the Labor Party.
Bathurst Country Labor branch president Barbara Bentley said the dinner usually features a sitting politician, but as the election was held early it was hard to confirm someone.
However, she said Mr Watson’s history with the Labor Party and interest in politics made him a very suitable choice regardless.
“I’m certainly looking forward to Don Watson speaking; I think he will be a fantastic guest speaker,” Ms Bentley said.
The dinner will be attended by Labor supporters and available sitting politicians.
“The Light on the Hill dinner is to celebrate the focus of the Labor Party, what the Labor Party stands for, and that is understanding the needs of the Australian people,” Ms Bentley said.
The dinner will be held at Bathurst Panthers Club on September 24.
