On Saturday, more than 60 volunteers came along to plant native riparian trees, shrubs and grasses in Rankens Bridge Park near Eglinton.
Approximately 800 trees were planted along a 200 metre stretch of the riverbank.
Bathurst Regional Council community engagement officer Bill Josh said it was great to see individuals, families and local community groups come together for the planting event.
He believes the forethought of people in Gen Y had a lot to do with numbers growing for the event.
“I really think people are starting to take more notice of the environment,” Mr Josh said.
“Gen Y are starting to grow up a bit and take notice of what’s going on in the world.”
Another community tree planting event will be held on August 21 at the Blayney Road Common on the Mid Western Highway.
It will start at 9am.
