The game started with its usual intensity and Jacob Davey in ruck provided good service to his midfield. Wes Standfield and Michael Long moved the ball well into the forward line providing many opportunities for a goal to be kicked. Unfortunately, accuracy was an issue and the Bushrangers only managed five behinds. On many occasions Nick Irwin and Nick Rosser led the way in bringing the ball to ground with Nick Seve on hand to assist in running it out of defence. At the end of the first quarter no goals had been kicked and the Bushrangers led by three points.
The intensity continued and was highlighted by Pat Lemmich and Tom Veitch who continued to put the ball carrier under pressure with some crunching tackles. Time and space was hard to find for both sides until Yool Yool managed to break a tackle, steady himself and kick a great goal from about 40 metres out. It did, however, not have the desired effect. Still, in general play the Bushrangers provided more scoring opportunities with Anthony Coan and Lachlan Philips putting forward line pressure on their opponents. On the wing Jaydon Burrow played a brilliant quarter of footy attacking the ball, breaking tackles and stepping opponents to give his forwards an opportunity. Again, inaccuracy was costing the Bushrangers an opportunity to break away and at the main break held a one goal lead.
With heavy legs, both sides took to the field ready to fight it out to the end. The midfield had changed up with Ricky Webb having a run and Sam Flude put into the ruck. This meant Jacob Davey who had already played a great role in the ruck and defence taking some spectacular marks was given a run in the forward line. He took a great mark and kicked truly to give his team some hope of an improbable victory after the Giants had started the quarter with two quick goals. Josh Coyte and Jake Lynch had been tireless runners all day. Coyte playing on the ball, even went into the ruck a few times. Lynch spent a lot of time on the ball in the last quarter and laid a few good tackles to halt the Giants surge. When the final siren sounded the Bushrangers had been defeated 6-10-46 to 3-11-29, however, the gap between the two teams has narrowed again and the boys are looking forward at having another crack before the finals in three weeks.
