I hope the mayor Gary “Good News” Rush has got the message that ratepayers are none too pleased with the condition of regional roads.

So maybe the mayor should call a stop to future black-hole facilities like the proposed $2 million rail museum in Havannah Street, which I guess will haemorrhage ratepayers’ cash like other existing cultural facilities.
Instead, invest this money in road reconstruction.
“Fix the bloody roads,” as one ratepayer told me eloquently last week.
I fully support council’s economic development initiatives, but council can’t forget the basics - road repair and/or road improvements on an annual basis.
Clearly council has forgotten these basics, otherwise so many roads would not have crumbled as they have in the past six weeks.
I must say, too, I am perplexed by one explanation that I hear came from council recently regarding the condition of some local roads. Some roads “do this” (as in fail) was the explanation. So why don’t most roads not fail?
Brock bandwagon
I, LIKE many locals, was a Peter Brock fan, but I honestly think V8 Supercars getting on the bandwagon of commemorating the 10th anniversary of Brock’s death is nothing short of money- grabbing.
I appreciate marketing is marketing, but it’s even more amusing that Brock was not a fan of the V8 Supercars structure, an opinion he made well-known.
Healthy parking solution
MY spies tell me that later this week, heavies from Western Health will meet with Member for Bathurst Paul Toole to discuss how parking can be improved on and around Bathurst Health Service.
Parking for visitors has been an issue from the day the new facility opened – mainly because staff park in the nearest space available. So a staff parking solution needs to be found.
The previous government cut the budget, failing to deliver a covered car park on Mitre Street as proposed, so let’s hope Western Health and the local member can get the ball rolling and fast-track a solution.
Wait for portal proof
COUNCIL says it has made it easier for ratepayers to engage on important issues affecting this great city – including making submissions on development applications, budgeting and planning - with the creation of an online portal called “Have Your Say”.
This sounds all nice and fuzzy, but council doesn’t have a great track record on listening, so the jury is out on whether this portal will be effective.
Proof, as they say, “will be in the pudding”.
Thumbs up
WESTERN Health heavies meeting with Member for Bathurst Paul Toole this week to discuss improving parking at Bathurst Health Service.
The first task would be to kick out able-bodied staff who insist on parking at the front door of the hospital, stopping the disabled and elderly from getting a park.
Thumbs down
HEAVEN forbid! We have gone six days without rain, El Nino must be back!
Despite the heavy frosts, it has been great to see some sunshine, but I fear Bathurstians will never get off their lawnmowers this spring and summer.
