On Monday evening a home in Seymour Street was broken into after someone climbed through an open window, and once inside stole a wallet and its contents.
Early Tuesday morning, an elderly couple were asleep in their Henderson Street home, when around 3am two people jemmied a rear door, entered the home including the bedroom where the victims were sleeping and stole a wallet, cash, cards, car and house keys.
One of the victims woke to the car alarm sounding and when he went to investigate he saw two people running through his yard.
A week earlier, Windradyne residents, Terry and Irene Holden had a similar experience, when someone broke into their home through a closed but unlocked window.
Mrs Holden and her husband were in the lounge room watching television and later that evening went to go to bed when they noticed the bedroom door was closed, and they hadn’t shut it.
With both she and Terry in the lounge room, and double doors separating the lounge area from the bedroom she said they didn’t hear a thing.
“We’re both pretty deaf and we had the TV up so we could hear it. Who ever broke in shut the bedroom door, and then went through the wardrobe, probably looking for money.
“Terry’s wallet was in his trousers, they took that and then left.”
“I think they must have gone in and out quickly, it’s so brazen.”
Mrs Holden said she’s been hearing about things like this for years, but never thought it would happen to them.
Crime Prevention Officer with Chifley command Sen Const Sue Rose said it was vital people keep screen doors and windows locked, even when you’re home inside.
“What it does it make it harder for them [the offender] to get in. They are opportunistic, so if your house is too hard to get into, they move on.
“Keep your windows and doors locked and if you see someone looking suspicious call us straight away.”
Sen Const Rose said if you’re inside your house and someone is trying to break in call triple 000 straight away.
“That’s an emergency so call 000.”
