JB Hi Fi is due to open a Dubbo store next week to fill a gap in the market created by the collapse of Dick Smith Electronics.
The store will open in Orana Mall in a shop previously home to Bernardi’s IGA supermarket.
The collapse of Dick Smith has left a major vacancy in the Bathurst City Centre and local consumers had hoped JB Hi Fi might be interested in filling it.
And while a spokesperson for the company said nothing was happening right now, they would not rule out a move to Bathurst in the future.
“Although we wouldn’t rule out opening a store in Bathurst in the future, we are not in discussions with anyone at the moment about it,” the spokesperson said.
Mayor Gary Rush said council was always interested in speaking to companies who might be interested in coming to Bathurst.
“Many times companies approach council through our economic development department to get a feel for whether there are any incentives available or how council could assist with a possible move to town,” he said.
“We’re always interested in holding discussions with organisations to share information we have with regards to the growth and development of Bathurst and if that sort of information can assist them to come here then well and good.”
The new Dubbo store will be the first JB Hi-Fi HOME Store in regional NSW.
