Not only do firefighters receive call outs to fires and motor vehicle accidents, they are regularly called to hazardous materials (hazmat) incidents including hydrocarbons, gas leaks and emergency decontamination procedures.
Fire and Rescue Bathurst Station Officer Chris Sanders accepted delivery of the new vehicle this week, which will be based in Bathurst but used across the region.
While the Bathurst station has always had a hazmat vehicle, this updated model comes with all the latest technology including pumps to decant chemical or fuel spills.
Crews will also have access to data on chemical properties and a weather station.
