Race favourite Terminate ($1.90) got an excellent start from box one and extended his lead to nine and a quarter metres by the winning post.
She’s A Mustang ($30.30) finished strongly to take the runner-up position by a length ahead of Cosmic Crash ($13.90).
“I’ve had him for eight months now and he’s shown me a lot of ability but he can’t run the 500m really strong. The 450m is right up his alley,” Binda trainer Garry Williams said.
“He’s a good box dog, that’s his forte. He’s brilliant out of the box so hopefully it’s onwards and upwards.
“He shows good sections. Those first two splits are always really good but his run home is a little suspect. I think eventually he’ll get 500m but he won’t be a strong 500m runner.”
Terminate thrived in the wet conditions at Kennerson Park to give himself a six-length lead before the turn for home, effectively confirming the result at the half-way mark.
All that was left to fight for was the minors. Cosmic Crash had been running second all race until She’s A Mustang flew home late to pinch the spot.
The winning time was 25.99 seconds.
