Nel Kentish has twisted the arm of local arts people to dig deep into their childhood and find an artefact, letter, diary entry, report card, drawing – something that helped shape who they are now as an artist. One of those people is me.
Be prepared for the personal, the hilarious and the nostalgic in the second instalment of Grown Ups Do Show and Tell on Sunday, August 28 at 3pm at Tommy’s (upstairs at 82 George Street).
Entry is $12 as a fundraiser for Big Little One’s new theatre work, We Always Wanted To Be Professional Dancers, which is premiering in Bathurst on September 9 and 10.
The speakers include:
- Graham Sattler: Executive director of Mitchell Conservatorium.
- Abby Smith: Musician, one half of Smith & Jones, and co-leader of CanBeltos Soul Choir
- James Arrow: Film-maker and director of Rusty Shutter Films.
- Maryanne Jaques: Playwright and visual arts communicator.
- Adam Deusien: Theatre maker, academic, Lingua Franca.
- Jess Jennings: Politician and co-founder of Bathurst Wholefoods Co-op.
- Alesha Elbourne: Theatre maker and visual artist.
- Tommy Griffiths: Restaurateur, owner of Tommy’s.
And what did I want to be when I grew up? You’ll have to come on Sunday to find out.
Free workshops
ACTUALLY, one thing I would have loved to do growing up was be in an original theatre show developed with Local Stages at BMEC and the Australian Theatre for Young People.
If you’re aged 13-16 join Nel Kentish and I on Saturday September 3 from 2pm to 6pm at BMEC for a free theatre making workshop where we’ll get the whole ball rolling.

Eisteddfod begins
BATHURST Arts Council is proud to one of many long running sponsors of the Bathurst Eisteddfod – sponsoring three senior youth scholarships and the open character sketch in the 71st annual eisteddfod at BMEC.
It all starts on Sunday with dance and runs through to September 15. Best wishes to everyone stepping onto the stage this year.
Poetry weekend
ENJOY a weekend of eco-poetica with Anne Elvey this Friday, August 26 through to Sunday, August 28 at Rahamim, 34 Busby Street.
