Hills Brumbies SC had beaten the Mariners 8-0 earlier in the season and once again were a class above the Western men in a dominant victory.
Kenny McCall picked up the sole Mariners goal shortly after half-time.
“We talk about trying to hold them to nil-all at half-time and getting a surprise goal on them after half-time. Even though we went into half-time 3-0 down I thought it was probably one of the better halves we’ve played this year,” Mariners goalkeeper Adam Brackenridge said.
“Those were probably the only three clear chances they had. We had our chances in the second half but our final execution let us down.”
Mariners will officially drop back to men’s State League next year after the weekend’s results left them unable to get out of last place in the club championship.
