Daffodil Day is a national day of hope to show support for people who have been affected by cancer.
Twins Makayla and Katrina Benham were just three when their family began its association with Daffodil Day, and association that has raised thousands of dollars for cancer research over the past two decades.
And mother Debbie Lynch-Benham says they plan to keep on supporting Daffodil Day for as long as possible.
“The twins were three when we started so many people are fascinated with how they have grown up over the years and enjoy catching up with them on the day,” Debbie said.
“Their little sister Larissa has also dedicated her time to this day since being born and has this year involved her fellow SRC members from Kelso High campus to hit the streets on Friday morning selling merchandise.
“For me, this is the only way I feel that I can help people and their families that have been touched by cancer and work towards a cancer-free future.”
Daffodil Day mascot Dougal Bear will be at the Bathurst City Centre with Debbie and her daughters on Friday selling merchandise.
People are invited to take a special photo which can be posted online with the hashtag #Daffodil Day to show their support for the Cancer Council.
Daffodil Day raises vital funds for – and awareness about – the work of Cancer Council including research, patient support services and prevention programs to support the 350 Australians diagnosed with cancer each day.
This year for the first time, Australians will be able to use their phones or head online to dedicate a virtual daffodil to someone they know. Selected dedications will then be chosen to feature in the campaign.
Just text HOPE to 1999 8877 and a $5/sms donation will automatically be incorporated into your mobile bill.
A follow-up text message will enable supporters to personalise and share their daffodil dedication.
