Bathurst is home to more than 60 educational institutions, from pre-schools through to a university, providing accessible education to those in our local community.
These educational choices are backed up by a range of opportunities and events that add to the depth of resources and facilities available locally, to those of all ages.
Among them, the annual Bathurst Jobs Expo. The third annual Expo this week attracted a record crowd, from the region’s school students looking at career options to job seekers exploring new jobs and training opportunities. The Expo is evolving into a regional careers market and this year’s event was attended by students from Portland, Orange, Yeoval, Cowra, Lithgow, Canowindra, Kandos, Blayney, Oberon and Bathurst. The day is a one-stop shop for careers and jobs advice and also offered a range of guest speakers providing insights and advice to visiting students.
Next month, Council and its partners will host BizWeek which includes in free marketing workshop and a lunch featuring Mark Bouris as key note speaker. These events provide opportunities for ongoing education and learning experiences for local business owners and operators.
By working with our community, no matter what the age group, we are creating opportunities for as many people as possible to develop new skills and interests and to help build depth to the talent pool amongst our local students, job seekers, employees and business owners and operators.

Vietnam Veterans Open New Facilities
It was great to spend time with members of the Bathurst and District Vietnam Veterans last Sunday where we not only paid tribute to the men, women and families that were a part of the Vietnam War, but also officially opened the parks new recreation facilities. The memorial park and gardens pay tribute to the 60,000 men and women who fought in the Vietnam War and provide a place for people to reflect and remember those people. The popular park accommodates a large number of campers throughout the V8 race week. The new facilities will aid the fundraising efforts of the group who volunteer their own time to raise funds for the continued growth and maintenance of the park.
NSW Government Stone Program
Bathurst Courthouse, one of four landmark sandstone buildings in NSW will benefit from two million in funding as a part of the NSW Government’s Stone program. Sandstone buildings are part of early Australian history and this program will ensure that these significant sites are not only maintained and protected. Ensuring work will continue with recruitment, training and development of apprentice stonemasons.
