Bushrangers Outlaws will take on Cowra Blues in the senior grade’s qualifying final while Bushrangers Rebels hope to bring down Dubbo Demons in the elimination final.
The minor premier Lady Bushrangers side plus the club’s under 18s team will also enjoy finals game at home in a day that’s been dubbed ‘Super Saturday’.
It seemed like a tall order at the beginning of the year for the Bushrangers to essentially split their senior ranks in two and maintain their competitive edge.
With first and third finishing positions on the table the Bushrangers teams have shown they were up to the challenge.
Bushrangers president Graeme Grundy said it was a big ambition for the club to get both their new senior teams into the finals and they should be proud to see it unfold.
“At the beginning of the year there was hope that we could get both teams into the finals. There was a lot of work put into making the teams as evenly skilled as possible,” he said.
“The two teams have developed their own camaraderie and motivation. That’s something they’ve produced on their own and not something that we’ve forced. It’s great to see.”
Saturday will mark the first time in Central West AFL’s history where both the qualifying and elimination finals will be held at the same venue.
Outlaws’ forfeit win from Parkes Panthers in the penultimate round ensured they couldn’t be knocked off the top of the table but Rebels still needed a last-round victory over the Orange Tigers to make ‘Super Saturday’ a realisation.
Rebels pulled off the necessary result, and with it, one of the biggest home advantages they will ever get.
“The possibility of playing the matches on the same day was floated to us a little while ago. They [Central West AFL] asked us if it was something we wanted to do, because it’s a big day logistically to make happen. We jumped at the opportunity,” Grundy said.
“Everyone’s looking forward to this weekend. To be able to play your game and have the rest of the club along there to support you … it will be an amazing thing for all our teams.”
Grundy said the 18s and women’s teams will enjoy one of their most rousing receptions this season – a big moment for both sides.
“It will be a great crowd. Everybody will be around the 18s boys as the crowd builds towards the big games,” he said.
“I think the girls is an even better story. I hope people will be very interested to see how they go and watch them play. I hope it encourages more people to get into the game.”
The under 18s matches – including the Bathurst derby between Bushrangers and Giants in the qualifying final – gets proceedings underway from 10.30pm.
Lady Bushrangers and the Rebels play at 12.15pm, Outlaws from 2.30pm.
