Previously based at Cobbitty under the guidance of Luke and Belinda McCarthy, a decision was made to send the Passmaster Hanover x Thalassa colt to Turnbull’s stables to further his development.
The move has so far paid off as he has won twice in the past fortnight at the Bathurst Paceway.
On August 17 with Turnbull in the gig, Express Pass drew well in barrier one. He showed gate speed, had the lead on the bell and from there went on to win by a handy 8.9m in a quick 1:55.7 mile rate.
On Wednesday night Chris Geary had the drive in the NSW Standardbred Owners Association Three-Year-Old Pace (1,730 metres) and again Express Pass saluted.
This time the win came in different fashion. Geary initially sat back in second last after going from the extreme outside of the second row.
He dropped back to last down the back straight before surging to the lead after turning for home.
Express Pass ($5.30) went on to win by 4m over What A Curtainraiser ($1.30, Amanda Turnbull) with Lethal Promise ($2.50, Bernie Hewitt) a neck further back in third.
“He’s a really cool little horse. I’ve had a lot to do with him from when he was at Luke and Belinda’s. They sent him down to Nathan and he’s got him going really well,” Geary said. “I was probably a little bit optimistic to get him going when I did, but it worked out well.”
