With thanks to the support received by Arts NSW and Regional Arts Fund, a collaboration between the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) and the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre (BMEC), presents a new, youth-led music theatre show which will be developed and created by young people living in the central west.
Development workshops will be conducted with local young people to find out what their significant issues, stories, hopes and dreams are, and how they translate these elements into a main-stage theatre work.
These workshops will explore music theatre, film production, devising, masks, cartooning and more! The first of the workshops commences next Saturday, 3rd of September at CSU from 2-6pm.
Although hoping to engage as many young people as possible, this project is mostly suitable for people aged 13-16 years, and is particularly interested in engaging young people with an interest in the performing arts, young Aboriginal people and individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds.
These workshops will lead into a scripted performance at BMEC in April.
The workshops will be lead by Penelope (Nel) Kentish with writer Maryanne Jaques and others as the work develops.
While you do not have to attend all of the workshops (the registration form will step you through this) it is recommended that all attend the January workshops and the April rehearsals to be included in the performance.
We are working closely with ATYP to develop further opportunities for this group.
Stephen Champion, Manager of BMEC says that, “this is an exciting and rare opportunity for Bathurst’s young people to engage with professional artists to create a new theatre work”.
Involvement in this program is free but registrations are essential. To register for the ATYP workshops, contact BMEC Box office: Phone 6333 6161 or http://www.bmec.com.au.
