The marathon was held to raise money for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, a charity chosen due to store owner Ann Bantoft’s son Brad Williams being diagnosed with brain cancer.
Ms Bantoft hoped to have 100 people participate and was pleased to see 102 attend on the day.
More than 50 people played in multiple sessions.
“Initially we asked for a gold coin donation, but we had some people give $50 and some who took out $20,” Ms Bantoft said.
The generosity on the day was not limited to the players, with Tommy’s Tex Mex owner Tommy Griffiths stopping by with a cheque for $500.
Mr Williams, who is now in palliative care, also visited the store for the marathon.
“He was very overwhelmed by the sheer support of everyone,” Ms Bantoft said.
Game On will continue to fundraise for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation and already has raffles and a pie drive underway in-store.
Ms Bantoft said further events would feature Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh! and tabletop war games.
She said the marathon proved that the store is achieving it’s goal of being more than an impersonal gaming provider.
“I think what we’ve created is a community of like-minded people and they are all great people,” Ms Bantoft said.
