After coming out second from the boxes Local Bloke ($2 favourite) ran down early leader True Danger ($6.80) to go one place better than he did a week ago on the same track.
Orange trainer Steven Jones was happy with his runner’s improved start this time around.
“He’s learning. He’s just a young. He’s probably still 10 starts off knowing what it’s all about,” he said.
“He just missed the kick last week over the 300m, and you just can’t do that over 300. I just stepped him up for this.
“He might make into a reasonable dog one day.”
True Danger got the best start from box three while Local Bloke, starting widest from box eight, wasn’t far behind.
Across the back of the track Local Bloke ducked to the inside of True Danger and began to work his way in front on the approach to the last turn.
Local Bloke extended that leading margin to three and a half lengths by the time he hit the line.
Irinka Lyn ($3.40) fought back from a disappointing start to charge into third spot a further half-length away.
The winning time was 26.11 seconds.
