Residents at Georges Plains and Perthville, in particular, have been warned to be ready to act in the event of possible flooding.
The NSW State Emergency Service issued the flood watch on Thursday morning following advice from the Bureau of Meteorology that further rain is expected over the next few days.
A low pressure trough is expected to develop over south-west Queensland throughout Thursday, deepening into a low pressure system as it shifts into NSW on Friday.
“This weather system is forecast to bring widespread rain to the state, with some areas receiving moderate to heavy falls,” an SES spokesperson said.
“It has the potential to cause riverine flooding as well as local flash flooding in river valleys from Friday onwards.
“People living in the Georges Plains area could be affected by flooding from the Georges Plains Creek. People living in the Perthville area could be affected by flooding from the Vale Creek.”
Farmers and other landholders should consider moving livestock, pumps and other farm equipment to higher ground and, If the predicted weather system intensifies, flooding could develop in the Bathurst area.
