It turns out Bathurst Regional Council has.
Council has commissioned Ryan “The Brickman” McNaught to create two models entirely out of LEGO, one of Mount Panorama – Wahluu and the other of pit straight.
The models will feature at an exhibition starting at Bathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) in late November.
Before the models can be built, however, Mr McNaught needs stories that can be part of the structures.
Mayor Gary Rush said council is calling on residents to suggest stories from the Mount that deserve to be featured.
“From the special place Wahluu holds in Wiradyuri culture to its stature in the world of motor sports, Mount Panorama – Wahluu means many things to many people, and this is what we hope to capture through this project,” he said.
“I am sure there will be stories associated with the Mount Panorama racing circuit that capture the motor sport history of the iconic location, but there are many other stories that are also part of the history of Mount Panorama – Wahluu that would be worthy of inclusion in the model.”
Cr Rush suggested the drive-in cinema or favourite racing stories.
BRAG director Richard Perram said the project to build these LEGO models was inspired by a model of the Colosseum that came to the gallery from the Nicholson Museum in Sydney at the end of 2013.
Wanting to improve on that, Mr Perram said the models of Mount Panorama – Wahluu and pit straight would have an interactive element.
“Underneath that there will be an activity with LEGO that children can come in and play with,” he said.
The exhibition will start at BRAG on November 26 and run until January 29, 2017.
Mr Perram said the models will likely be moved to the National Motor Racing Museum after the exhibition comes to an end.
