Known as the city’s biggest man cave, the museum is home to historic racing cars and motorbikes, and attracts thousands of visitors every year.

Dads got to celebrate the history, personalities and achievements in Australian motor sports and explore the history of speedway, solar, drag, rallying, open wheeler, sports cars and touring cars.

Among the fathers who visited the complex was Councillor Michael Coote, who went through with his sons Samuel and James.

Cr Coote said the day had gone really well.

“We’ve had a lot of response to the day and a lot of people who have never been here before. We were targeting the 2795 postcode and we’ve had a great response.”

Jason Slattery, from Bathurst, brought his brother-in-law, Sam Ingram, to have a look at the museum while he was visiting.

Mr Slattery said he had been at the museum about a month ago, and thought it was so fantastic he’d come back.

Mr Ingram said the history housed in the museum was incredible.

“It was awesome; it was great to see how it all started, and how the heritage has been kept,” he said.

Ella Edwards, 6, who was with her dad Rick, said she was there “because it was Father’s Day”.

“It’s Father’s Day so we’re doing what dad wants,” she said.
