Pat’s had the opportunity to set up a showdown with Bathurst Panthers in the decider but the competition’s minor premiers were too strong in the Carrington Park clash.
Saints opened the scoring with a Jared Colling try but Adam Stanford and Desmond Knight hit back with tries of their own to give CYMS a 10-6 lead at the break.
Matthew Morris broke through the Pat’s line just three minutes into the new half to score and when James Angus followed up to take the score to 20-6 CYMS were threatening to run away with it.
Bailey Waldron kept the hosts in touch with a try 20 minutes from full-time but Morgan Assie’s four-pointer gave CYMS more breathing space.
When the Saints’ Tim Collins found a try on the right wing there was only two minutes left on the clock, making it just a consolation.
“We were in the contest but CYMS deservedly came out winners,” Pat’s coach Daniel Finn said.
“They played the game we talked about, which was building pressure and getting repeat sets. That’s what [CYMS five-eighth] Steve Lane does so well.”
