The Eglinton Tennis Club held its AGM last week with Brian Dwyer re- elected as President and voted by his peers as a life member of the club. The best there words to describe Brian Dwyers role in making the biggest little club in the west a great club are, loyalty, commitment and dedication. You don't get life membership for doing nothing.

Dwyer has been inspirational in making the Eglinton Tennis Club a club that has a bright future. Brian has always had the respect from his members and is looking forward to new challenges. I believe a good leader makes good club. President Dwyer was surprised at being awarded with life membership of the club. “It is such a great thrill for me that the members of our club awarded me with this most prestigious award. I could not have have achieved this award without the help of all the players, and without saying the best committee I could have ever asked for.”
The club has a new look committee with the election of three new people. The action of office bearers are as follows:
President - Brian Dwyer, Vice President - Colleen Garvey, Secretary - Roger Giles, Treasure - Jason Honeyman, Competition Convener - Kath Wilkinson, Publicity Officer - John Bullock.
With the last round played last Saturday its now semis time with four strong sides to do battle. The semi final sides are as follows: Team Mercury of Bryan Reiri, Elio Bicanic, Dave Simpson, Matt D Eath and Jacob Bicanic will tackle the underdogs side of Team Uranus of John Bullock, Matt Gibson, Brian Dwyer, Barry Lindsay and Barry Hurst in the first semi. With the second semi between Team Saturn of Garth Hindmarch, Jason Honeyman, Bryson Richards, Philip Church and James Lloyd up against one of the tall poppy sides of Team Neptune of Jason Molkintin, Allyson Schumacher, Harry Dang, Graeme Stapleton and David Bant. My tips for the semis are for Team Uranus to upset the favourites Team Mercury 7-3. The players to watch in this match will be Matt Gibson and Matt D Eath. Both players are in hot form. The second semis Team Saturn will have too much class for Team Neptune 8-2. The danger players to watch in this match will be Garth Hindmarch and Iron Lady Allyson Schumacher. Both players if given room to move can tear you to shreds.
Club President Brian Dwyer and all the players would like to wish one of our young gun players Scotty Osborne our wishes as he battles sickness in west mead hospital. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Scotty. Also to Rod Schumacher who has recently had a knee operation. Well folks its going to be a great semi finals day at the biggest little club in the west. So be there or be square. Good Hitting.
