Form and Flux is Wilson’s third solo exhibition at BRAG in twenty years and follows on from his last show, Peter Wilson: 30 years on (2007), which was an extensive survey celebrating his accomplished practice and contributions to the research of ceramics.
Wilson is renowned for his craftsmanship and understanding of ceramic materials, but also a deep commitment to continuous experimentation and the refinement of ideas.
His approach also includes an element of alchemy, as he collects and hones recipes for glazes, testing each and adding new iterations as he perfects the method.
“Time is the greatest gift and it has enabled me to manipulate materials to visualise and organise my information to create a personal uniqueness in developing my own conventions,” says Wilson
In his quest to “fix a silent poem in clay”, Wilson considers utility, balance, weight, thickness, and feel to create objects that are unique, beautiful, and a pleasure to hold and use.
Wilson comments, “I am searching for human individuality in the world of high tech, mass produced sterility, objects that define our lives.
Once I began to understand the material (clay), I was hooked like an addict.”
Peter Wilson: Form and Flux is on exhibition at BRAG until Sunday 2 October 2016.
