Martin, 18, finished second overall to Kevin O’Brien, completing the 7.5km course in a time of 25 minutes and 57 seconds.
The Bathurst runner said he was able to keep in touch with O’Brien until the top of the jog’s major climb.
“We were pretty even at the start, which I was looking forward to so I could try and pace off someone there. He picked it up a bit going along Esrom Street. I held on until the top then he gradually started to get away from me,” he said.
“Towards the end I started to feel that fatigue that had built up from the City2Surf, but I’m still really happy with that run because I got a personal best record, which I was going for, and I was lucky enough to get second as well so that was a nice bonus.”
Martin easily beat his previous best of 26:42.
