We are a weird mob! Governments, whether they be local, state or federal, are elected and I, for one, disregarding their political persuasion, expect them to govern with efficiency.

Effective this week, Service NSW has started new trading hours after a review of consumer patterns through the doors. Interestingly, consumer patterns were similar in the city and bush.
Yes, believe it or not, here we have a State Government department that actually had its “eye on the ball”.
It completed a statewide review in a relatively short period of time after these centres were rolled out and has made changes to trading hours, saving NSW taxpayers more money.
And the media is whingeing as a result.
There’s an old saying: “There ain’t no sense setting a trap when there aren’t any rabbits.”
I hope every State Government department is just as efficient.
Think driving crocs is hard? Try driving roos
SLIM Dusty penned a ballad about driving a mob of 30,000 crocodiles from one end of Australia to another.
The opening lines are as follows: “No doubt you've heard of droving trips across the Murringai, and how they brought the bullocks down in the good old days gone by, but the greatest droving episode that any man has made, was 30,000 crocodiles from the Gulf to Adelaide.”
The song’s called From The Gulf To Adelaide for those who are interested.
I thought of this ballad when I heard that last week the much-talked-about kangaroo drive took place on the lower reaches of Mount Panorama.
My spies tell me not all things went as planned (as I would have expected), including some escaping when they wouldn’t play the game.
I told you it would be more comical than the Melbourne Comedy Festival.
Just thinking about the interests of competition
GARY Rush was elected unopposed at last week’s mayoral election, but I do hear he might have had some competition at one stage.
It made me think of the late former councillor and former mayor, Les Wardman, who, on many occasions, used to nominate against the late mayor Ian Macintosh “in the interests of competition”, forcing a public vote.
Well, they do say that the only constant is change
I MENTIONED recently that I expect changes in the executive staff on council during the amalgamation process between Bathurst and Oberon as part of the State Government’s local government reforms.
My opinion has not changed.
I would not be surprised if, for various reasons, we see some movement.
Thumbs Up
SERVICE NSW, a State Government department with an eye on efficiency and costs. I need an aspirin and a lie down.
Thumbs down
CONSTITUENTS who can’t be pleased, whingeing about efficient government departments. Shouldn’t we whinge when they are inefficient?
