Now, in the wake of the a flood NSW State Emergency Services officials have labelled as behaving “very, very different” to any other event the town of Forbes has endured, Emus, 2016 champions after a thrilling 14-11 win on grand final day, are offering the Platypi a friendly hand.
Greens boss Donna Roberts has set up a Go Fund Me page to help aid the Forbes Rugby Club when the flood water engulfing their home, Grinsted Oval, eventually recedes.
Roberts says she’s planning on banding together a group of Emus members to head over to Platypi territory when the water’s gone to help assist with any repairs to the club’s facilities – a move she’s hoping other Central West Rugby Union clubs will get behind.
In the mean time, Robert is asking for the rugby community to help out via the Go Fund Me page.
“It’s just a such a great club with great people,” Robert said, putting the healthy rivalry both clubs share on the rugby field to the side.
“I work with a lot of people in Forbes, I’m friends with people from Forbes … we just thought any way we could lend a hand would be worth it.
“Michelle Howarth suggested we go over there to help out, which is a great idea. I thought while we wait for the water to recede we can get the ball rolling with the donations page.”
Emus hosted their charity day at Endeavour Oval when Forbes visited in 2016, with a number of Platypi players bidding for jerseys post game to help raise money to go towards Emus’ juniors.
“We’d love to help them out. Anything people can give will, I’m sure, be greatly appreciated,” she added.
For the unfamiliar, Forbes’ Grinsted Oval is situated on the banks of Lake Forbes, with the road surrounding the ground, Gordon Duff Drive, completely unserviceable.
