There was a palpable buzz in the air earlier this month as athletes from far and wide gathered at the Bathurst Sportsground to have fun and to go for gold at the Sports Ability Gala Day.
“Our athletes were there with a multitude of different abilities, and were eager to participate in a fantastic day of mateship, competition and fun novelty events,” an organising spokesperson said.
“This was Accessible Living Options’ third disability sports day and was attended by people from as far away as Cobar, Bourke, Young and Gilgandra.”
An acknowledgement to country was delivered by Percy Raveneau, accompanied on the didgeridoo by Charlie Weldon and James Carter from St Stanislaus’ College, and a sausage sizzle was cooked by Bathurst Lions Club, which donated its time and equipment.
“Accessible Living Options would like to extend a big thank you to all who attended and made the day one to remember and look forward to next year,” the spokesperson said.
“We will be introducing an opening ceremony next year so everyone has a year to come up with a theme and make their flags and banners.”
