The town was declared a natural disaster zone this week and many residents were evacuated.
The appeal is off to a great start thanks to a $3000 donation from Bathurst Regional Council, but further community support is needed.
“I’m asking the community that if they have any sellable items in their garage, to get them out to be auctioned off for a good cause,” Cr Bourke said.
Some items have already been collected for the appeal, including a fridge, writing desk and table.
People who have items suitable for auction can bring them to the former Clancy Motors site on Howick Street.
“We are very appreciative of the Bolam family for allowing us to use the old Clancy’s site,” Cr Bourke said.
The building will be manned from 9am to 4pm daily for the next two to three weeks, after which an auction date will be determined.
Cr Bourke said similar appeals have raised as much as $100,000 before and he is hopeful the community will be just as generous.
“It just takes someone like the Bolam family and myself to kick it off and then the community gets it going,” he said.
Inquiries about the appeal can be directed to Cr Bourke on 0416 207 370.
