Alan Simmons was 18 at the time police allege he dragged a woman (who was then aged 22 years old) off Russell Street and subjected her to a violent sexual assault.
The woman was walking home alone on Russell Street in August, 2015 when the assault allegedly occurred.
Simmons is alleged to have dragged the woman from behind and dragged her into a paddock where he is charged with sexually and physically assaulting her for 90 minutes.
Charges laid against him include taking and or detaining person with intent to obtain advantage, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, eight counts of aggravated sexual assault inflicting actual bodily harm on victim and two counts of sexual intercourse without consent
Magistrate Roger Clisdell heard from public defender barrister Ian Nash in the morning session at the court.
Mr Nash disputed the number of aggravated sexual assault charges inflicting actual bodily harm on the victim.
“There are 10 allegation of assault, but only five injuries,” he said.
Magistrate Clisdell interjected.
“There are nearly 20 injuries,” he said.
But, Mr Nash argued back.
“If there are 10 aggravated assaults charged, but only five injuries, there cannot be 10 aggravated assaults, only five,” he said.
The court heard graphic details of the alleged assault on the victim during the 90 minutes she was allegedly detained by Simmons.
The committal hearing will resume after a lunch break.
