The motorsport world may have to wait until November until the result of the appeal by Triple Eight Racing on the 15 second penalty given to Jamie Whincup in the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

This follows the melee with 11 laps remaining and involving Volvo's Scott McLaughlin, HRT's Garth Tander and of course Whincup who subsequently dropped from the lead to 11th with the penalty.
Pundits have been divided on whether the penalty was fitting for the crime. Most seem to say it should stand and if it does Will Davison and Jonathon Webb will remain as winners in the #19 Tekno Autosport Holden.
Despite not leading a single lap, the Tekno boys deserve the victory for they drove well throughout, and the way Davison held off a determined challenge from second place finisher Shane van Gisbergen in a Red Bull Racing Holden was brilliant. It would be Davison's second win, having won previous with Garth Tander in 2009, and the first for Webb, although he did win the Bathurst 12 Hour race earlier this year.
Phil Brock went public and said he believed Whincup did not deserve to win, but then two high profile former winners John Bowe and Paul Morris said they were very much against the penalty.
No matter what happens, Whincup was still the driver of the event, for he was quickest all week, and his drive in securing pole position in the shoot-out was possibly the best lap I've seen.
The race resembled a high speed fuel economy run, with many teams praying for a safety car towards the end, and Davison ran out as he accelerated out of Murray's corner to the flag.
It was an impressive comeback for the Van Gisbergen Red Bull Holden for he had been forced to double stack behind Whincup during stops under safety car periods, the worst which saw him drop from second to eleventh.
After finishing second with the American based Frenchman Alex Premat, Red Bull Racing's Shane van Gisbergen has extended his lead in the championship after he went into the race with a seven point margin, and will carry a 139 point lead into the Gold Coast round.
Joining the Albury based Brad Jones Racing has been the making of Tim Slade who was extremely impressive along with Ash Walsh in the Freightliner Racing Holden, for they made the top ten shootout where Slade qualified a strong fifth. Lap 54 while in second position that everything went wrong for the duo, for they made a scheduled stop and while making a brake pad change it turned fiery. They returned to the track two laps down, but with 20 laps to run, got back on the lead lap and eventually finished seventh.
