Each year Operation Christmas Child asks people to fill shoeboxes full of gifts for children in need across the world, and so far 1402 have been collected in Bathurst.
Co-ordinator Lisa Limbrick said they have already beaten last year’s record of 1200, and smashed the 450 collected in 2014.
“We’re still aiming for 2000,” Ms Limbrick said.
This year many new groups have joined the operation to pack boxes, including child care centres and community groups such as Rotary and Lions.
Boxes have been packed by groups in Bathurst, Oberon and Ilford with a number of groups still to submit theirs by the October 31 deadline.
