The court met on Tuesday night and after 50 minutes of discussion, the chairman of the court announced that the appeal was dismissed.
The decision comes after the Triple Eight Race Engineering team challenged the stewards’ decision to award a 15-second post-race time penalty to car #88 (Jamie Whincup/Paul Dumbrell) for careless driving after causing contact with car #33 (Scott McLaughlin/David Wall) at turn 21 on lap 150.
A successful appeal would have elevated Whincup/Dumbrell to first on the podium, but the decision means the duo remain 11th in the overall standings and that Whincup missed out on his fifth victory at the iconic Mount Panorama track.
The court’s reasoning for the decision will be released in writing within 14 days of the conclusion of Tuesday’s appeal hearing.
