Jonathon Jaques, 30, and Cassandra Jones, 24, both of Raglan, were reported missing from Sofala on Monday.
Chifley Local Area Command duty officer Inspector David Abercrombie said the pair were part of a group who travelled to the area on the weekend.
“They went to the Sofala area with a number of friends on Sunday to go camping and hunting,” he said.
“During their trip the vehicle they were all in became stuck in the Turon River.”
Jaques and Jones went to get assistance for the group.
“It is alleged that they attended a nearby property in Sofala where they stole a Toyota Landcruiser and started making their way back to the group,” he said.
“While negotiating the Turon River they got stuck and as a result it [the car] became completely submerged.”
Jaques and Jones then returned to the same Sofala property. Meanwhile, their friends returned to Bathurst reported the duo missing on Monday evening.
Police commenced a search in Sofala on Tuesday.
“While police were making inquiries at properties long the Turon River they approached a property and the missing people were seen inside the house,” Inspector Abercrombie said.
Jaques and Jones were charged with aggravated break and enter and commit a serious indictable offence.
Jaques was also charged with take a conveyance without the consent.
Jones was also charged with being carried in a conveyance without consent.
Jaques was refused bail, Jones was granted bail and they will both appear in Bathurst Local Court on December 12.
