BATHURST trainer Dean Mirfin was a pleased man on Tuesday afternoon as all three of the runners he took to the Cowra Jockey Club meeting finished in the placings.

Super Pig, the form member of Mirfin’s stables, took out the opening race as the $2.80 favourite with talented jockey Mat Cahill in the saddle.
Cahill went on to ride Marvel ($7) to third in the Peppertree Farm Equine Clinic Handicap (1,375 metres) for Mirfin, and only narrowly missed making it a winning double for the Bathurst trainer when Shelleybabe ($2 favourite) ran a half length second in the Class 2 Handicap (1,200m).
While Strathaird ($8) held off Shelleybabe over the final 400m to spring an upset, there was no denying Super Pig.
The Murphy’s Blu Boy x Social Spark six-year-old gelding arrived at Cowra in excellent touch, his current campaign having already netted wins at Bathurst and Wellington as well as solid runner-up finishes on his home track and at Gilgandra.
Further adding to Super Pig’s favouritism was the Soft 7 track, Mirfin’s runner having posted three wins and three placings previously on rain affected tracks.
Super Pig stormed home down the straight to beat home Loyal Toast ($5.50) and Dog Tags ($4.20) who dead-heated for second place around a length behind him.
“He drew to get the run of the race and he did jump third on the fence, we got a nice run and when we straightened on the inside he was good enough to take that run,” Cahill said.
