MITCHELL Cricket Council’s under 12s and 14s were victorious in their opening Western Zone Inter-Council fixtures against Macquarie Valley in Bathurst on Sunday while the 16s side fell just shy of a win.

Middle order batsman Joe Kay (49 not out) kept the Mitchell 16s run chase alive in their bid to hunt down Macquarie’s 163.
However, he received little assistance from his side who finished up 25 runs short to their opponent’s total.
Macquarie’s victory was set up by an unbeaten knock of 77 from captain Thomas Atlee.
There was better luck for the two younger Mitchell sides.
The 14s secured a close nine-run win over Macquarie, who were nine wickets down chasing 181 when their 50 overs were up.
Lachlan Endacott did the damage for Mitchell with his score of 76 not out.
Mitchell’s Will Hutchinson was devastating with the ball as he claimed 4-29 in his 10 overs.
Under 12s had a thrilling last-ball win over Macquarie in their successful chase of 170.
Fergus Fergusson had a memorable match for Mitchell as he claimed two wickets while also top scoring for his side with 53.
Mitchell have the bye for the following round before they take on Lachlan Cricket Council in Cowra on November 13.
