As part of the closing celebrations of the sesquicentenary of the Diocese of Bathurst, Bishop Michael McKenna launched the book, titled Bishop Matthew Quinn and the Development of Catholic Education in New South Wales 1865 - 1885.
It was written by Brian Sweeney.
The Most Reverend Matthew Quinn arrived in Australia on the Empress on October 21, 1866 and arrived in Bathurst on October 29.
Bishop Quinn was installed as the first Bishop of Bathurst on November 1, 1866.
The book gives a detailed account of Bishop Quinn's leadership and influence in the development of the Catholic education system, not only in the Diocese of Bathurst, but throughout the colony.
One of Bishop Quinn's first accomplishments was the establishment of St Stanislaus' Boys High School, and the college will celebrate 150 years next year.
