Lighting has been installed at Bathurst’s BMX track in the Bathurst Bike Park, work is underway on new lighting at Carrington Park and tenders have been called for lighting at two fields at Proctor Park.
Bathurst Regional Council mayor Gary Rush said the lighting projects will ensure greater use of all facilities.
“The BMX track was designed and built to international level standards and the lighting that has been installed will increase usage at the track and bring it in line with current lighting guidelines from BMX Australia,” he said.
“When we hosted the national [BMX] championships earlier this year we brought temporary lighting in for the event.
“The investment in permanent lighting on the track will ensure we can continue to host major events at the site.”
The BMX nationals attracted more than 3000 registrations to compete and an estimated 10,000 visitors to the city.
The $1.5 million track was completed just prior to the championships.
Work is also underway to upgrade the lighting at Carrington Park.
The city centre park has been the location for the annual Penrith Panthers fixture during the last three years.
“This work will ensure lighting at the field is suitable for all current and anticipated usage, including televised NRL night games,” Cr Rush said.
The work is due for completion late in January, 2017.
“The lighting upgrade follows a series of major works at the ground including works on the playing field surface,” Cr Rush said.
The works also included the installation of an LED display screen and on ground PA system, while the construction of a new toilet block is underway.
The final project will be the installation of field lighting for two playing fields at Proctor Park.
“Tenders for the project have been called and close in November,” Cr Rush said.
“It is anticipated the work will be undertaken and ready prior to the 2017 season.”
“The lighting at Proctor Park is the first stage of planned upgrade works at the ground which have been developed in consultation with the Bathurst District Football Association.”
