The man was charged by police after the incident, where an internal court house door was damaged after the man opened it with such force it damaged its hinges and wooden casing, and as a result the door wouldn’t shut properly.

Jamie Lee Taylor, 29, of Simmons Place in Kelso did not appear before magistrate Michael Allen in Bathurst Local Court on October 17 to answer the charge, and the matter was dealt with in his absence, under Section 196.

The court heard how back in March this year the registrar of the court was asked by the magistrate to contact Taylor via telephone for a court related matter, and as a result at 12 midday Taylor attended the registry and spoke to the witness.

Taylor then entered the court room a short time later.

But at 12.40pm he exited the local court via the registry office doors and as he came through he gained the attention of the witness who was sitting at her desk.

As he walked through from the public area of the office and opened the door to the foyer area he opened the door with such force it slammed open, wrenching the door hinge and cracking the wooden door frame around the hinge.

Taylor then slammed the door shut behind him.

As a result of Taylor’s actions the door to the registry from the foyer would not shut properly.

The witness reported the matter to the sheriff and then the police.

She provided a statement to the police who also requested CCTV footage of the incident which clearly showed Taylor open and close the door causing the damage.

When Taylor was spoken to by police he declined an interview with them but made admissions to slamming the door.

He told the officers he was upset on the day as he had just lost custody of his child to his ex-partner.

He also told police when he left the court house he didn’t intend on damaging the door.

Mr Allen convicted Taylor, fining him $450.
