The garden will be used by the school’s Special Education Unit’s 35 students and also the the wider community.

“It will provide peace and learning and will held them [Special Education Unit students] to self-regulate,” relieving assistant principal Racquel Windus said. “We’ll also take the whole class out there and learn as well.”

Some work has begun on the garden with a seating area already constructed. Ms Windus said a range of textural items and activities would be included.

The garden will also be used one day a week by a local playgroup.

The $5000 grant has come from Barnardos Australia with support from Aldi.

Barnardos’ Anna Brown said it was a pleasure to hand over the cheque to the school.

“It’s just a highlight and so lovely to see this money will be put to good use,” she said.

An ALDI spokesperson said the grant program allows the supermarket chain to give back to its local community.

“Our hope is that with this program we can lend a helping hand to kids who need it and provide what they need to make healthy choices, live active lives and succeed to the best of their ability,” the spokesperson said.
