WE spent a couple of hours at the Windy Hill poll dorset flock ram sale at Carcoar Showground last week and were impressed by the quality and evenness of the 70 young rams that were offered.

Chris and Fiona Roweth must have been pleased with a $1200 (twice) top price, a total clearance and a $675 average.
Agent Lindsay Fryer, McCarron Cullinane, said that buying support was strong with rams going to Manildra, Cowra, Bathurst and the local area.
The Carcoar showground is a picture perfect venue for a livestock auction.
Pomanara sale
POMANARA’S 28th annual sale of superfine merino rams resulted in a good clearance and a top price of $2350.
Landmark auctioneer Marcus Schembri found a committed group of bidders who would have been impressed by good framed young rams with just enough skin development to produce very good wool cuts.
Buyers came from Walcha, Guyong, south of Bathurst city and from the local area.
Retiring types
MEMBERS of farming families who are approaching retirement age should think seriously of how the coming changes to part pension entitlements will affect their plans.
Qualification levels for both asset and income financials will change on January 1, 2017 and many claimants of financial assistance will not continue to receive that assistance from Centrelink.
From the outside no-one knows the retirement strategies of their friends but many of us realise that fully self-funded retirees will pay their own costs if they need to go into care at a time in their future.
Please discuss the coming changes with your financial adviser this week.
Huntleigh auction
THE advertised auction of “Huntleigh” Dunkeld provides investors with the opportunity to secure a very well presented property within close proximity to Bathurst city.
The almost 1400 acre property has been properly maintained and super application has been meticulous for decades.
There are not many quality rural holdings of this size in the Bathurst basin that are ever offered for sale.
To contain a modern 40-square brick homestead puts the seal on a very attractive offering.
Something different
THIS week brought reports of several Freemartin cows in a moderate sized mob and two hermaphrodite lambs in a mob of 160 finewool merino lambs.
Each of these occurrences are unusual and some producers guess that unusual seasonal conditions in recent years may be part of the cause.
In-breeding issues are often blamed for the lamb problem but the cattle situation is not often discussed.
A Google search of both Freemartin and hermaphrodite gives an insight into each of these animal health issues.
Wool market report
THE wool market suffered a correction this week in response to the largest offering this season.
All micron categories lost around 25 to35c/kg while the northern market indicator finished the week on 1348c/kg, down 27c/kg.
The spinner type fine wools were the least affected and the broader merinos lost the most ground. The broad XB wools seem to be on a continual slide and have now lost 100c/kg since this time last year.
Next week will see another big offering with 51,109 bales nationwide to again test the market.
The run into the Christmas break will see the offerings getting smaller down to around 45,00 bales.

Laugh lines
- THE finance manager was at his desk when a serious looking man came into the office and was pointed into a chair. “Book me for 100,000 Fortesque shares, we’ll sell the 20,000 Cadia shares, and please fast forward my order for 10,000 Wesfarmers”, the manager shouted into the phone. When he hung up, the manager inquired of the visitor’s financial needs and was told: “Oh, I’m not after advice, matey. Telstra sent me to replace your dead phone.”
- GEORGE was just about done and Father Joe whispered to him: “Repeat after me, I renounce the devil and all his evil deeds.” George said nothing and Father Joe asked again: “George, can ye hear what I’m saying?” George gasped: “I can hear you Father, but I don’t think this is the time for me to be falling out with anyone.”
